That coveted Summer glow isn’t just reserved for the warmer months. The sun doesn’t need to be out for your skin to glisten, and you can achieve a beautiful complexion, reminiscent of Summertime, in a variety of ways. From the more natural avenues, to the miracle products that will do all the work for you, we’ve got you covered.
Start on the inside
The best way to get started with your Summer glow is to work from the inside out. The skin is an organ, and it needs to be cared for like the rest of your body.
Sometimes it’s hard to find the time, and the energy, to eat right. But the good news is, you don’t need to be a full-time nutritionist to give your skin some of the good stuff it’s been craving. If you’re pressed for time, focus in on a few key foods, like avocados. Avocados have a lot of healthy fats which benefit various functions in your body (including healthy skin). They are also rich in vitamin E; an antioxidant that protects skin.
If avocados aren’t your thing, you can try some fatty fish, like salmon and mackerel. These are great sources of omega-3 fatty acids which help keep your skin moisturised.
While sweat may seem counterproductive when it comes to achieving a clear complexion, the increased blood flow actually carries oxygen to cells throughout the body, including the skin. This can revitalise your skin and get you looking fresh.
On top of that, your pores open up when you sweat. This means sweating can purge your body of any toxins that may have otherwise clogged your pores, and resulted in breakouts. That being said, leaving sweaty workout gear on after a jog or a day at the gym can result in irritation to your skin. So, make sure when you’ve finished sweating, you jump in the shower, and put on some fresh clothes.
Catch some Zs
Not getting enough sleep can do serious harm to your body, and your skin in particular. Sleep deprivation can impact collagen growth, the hydration of your skin, and the healing of wounds. It may also result in more inflammation, which can leave you with outbreaks. If you’re a bit of a night owl, try and hit the hay even an hour or two earlier, and your body will thank you.
Of all the tips so far, this may be the hardest one to put into action in your day-to-day life. If relaxing and forgetting all your worries was easy, I’m sure we’d all be a lot less stressed. But that doesn’t change the fact that increased hormones produced when we’re stressed can have a negative impact on skin and cause inflammation. If you’re a chronic worrier, try and set aside a few minutes every day to meditate. This can help your skin, and will also ease your mind.
Sometimes, the natural methods just won’t cut it. For some people, a beachy glow is as simple as drinking water and getting a comfortable 8 hours every night. For others, a little extra help is required.
The biggest enemy of that elusive Summer glow is dull skin. While it may seem like dullness is a characteristic you’re stuck with, this couldn’t be further from the truth. Quite often, dull skin is a result of dry and dead skin cells piling up on the face. If you’re looking to swap out the dull and lacklustre for something bright and radiant, we’d recommend a gentle chemical exfoliant. A great option is Pixi’s Glow Tonic. It’s contains 5% glycolic, and is gentle yet effective, making it a perfect fit for all skin types.
Exfoliating and moisturising are the peanut butter and jelly of skin care; they should always go together. When it comes to moisturisers that will boost your Summer glow, and kick dullness to the curb, you want to go for something that includes hyaluronic acid, and glycerin. The acid is surprisingly a great moisturising ingredient, and the glycerin helps the acid bind to your skin for maximum absorption.

The finishing touches
If you’ve worked on treating yourself to some green eating, and an exfoliating and moisturising routine, and you’re still looking for a little something extra to boost your glow, we’ve got some products and tips that will bring yor radiance to the next level.
Luckily for you, and your burgeoning Summer glow, dewy foundations are all the rage. They’re also a great alternative to matte options which can be a nightmare to apply to dry skin. One of the most popular dewy foundations, and one that we’d recommend, is Fit Me Dewy & Smooth by Maybelline. This one is extra lovable because it’s also has SPF 18.
When it comes to Summer glow, highlighters are the go to products. What we love about highlighters is their versatility. Depending on the colour you choose, this product can be dusted onto features you’d like to accentuate, like your cheekbones, lips, or eyebrows. It can also be used as a brightener for your inner eye, or used over your collarbones to create extra dimension.
For dark skin, you can’t go passed the Shimmering Skin Perfector by Becca.
For medium skin we love the Star Lit Liquid by Make Up For Ever in the gorgeous shade of Golden Peach.
For fair skin, we’d recommend The Multiple by Nars in the shade Copacabana.
If you don’t have the time, or just can’t be bothered, with actual makeup products, there are other options that will add a healthy, vibrant glow to your skin that require very little time and effort.
A great choice is Tatcha’s Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. The product is like a mist-on moisturiser, and with a few gentle sprays this mist will give you a lively glow, and add a lot of moisture to your skin in the process.
However, if Tatcha’s spray is a bit out of your price range, Ciaté have something more affordable that’s just as easy. Ciaté’s Dewy Stix are similar to a highlighter, but they’re actually a balm. What this means is the texture is softer, and they’re easier to use, and blend over your whole body. While they can obviously be used as a part of your makeup routine, they can also be applied on their own.
